Just as years have seasons so do homes - although a home’s hospitable summer may encompass an entire decade, the length of a marriage, the lifespan of a battle-scarred tomcat. I have lived in many places, and they have always given me clear signs when it is time to move along and migrate to another climate, a new home.
Sometimes it takes me a long time to listen, still plugged into the communications of humans and less sensitive to the slow stone clicks, the barometric dips and kisses, the deep somatic twitches of how a landscape both beckons us to its body and then, sometimes, sends us on our way.
